BPO Training Programme
Communications Skills And Personality Development Training Course
Background and the Course
The IT Department is taking steps for bringing investments in the IT Enabled Services and BPO Sectors into the State. There is an urgent need, however, for trained call-centre personnel possessing not only the requisite computing and other skills but also the ability to communicate with overseas clients in accent-free English. Graduates from conventional educational systems need to have their skills upgraded to meet the stringent requirements of the BPO industry.
To ensure that Odisha achieves its potential as a BPO hub, OCAC has introduced training programs in Communications Skills and Personality Development. These training programs would be relevant to college students aspiring to a rewarding career in the BPO sector, and will be for a total duration of one hundred and seventy hours over a ten week period. Training facilities are initially located at OCAC, Bhubaneswar but will expand to cover other major towns in the state. OCAC is also regularly seeking feedback from HR experts in IT/ITES Industries such as Nipuna Satyam, HSBC, WiproSpectramind and GE Caps on the relevance of these training programs to the actual requirements at the workplace.
OCAC has also tied up reputed agencies conducting skills Assessment Tests in verbal, numerical, analytical, mental applications and computer keyboard skills. Leading BPO companies use these test scores in conducting their recruitment programs.
This initiative by OCAC in the short and medium term will prompt multinational BPO companies like DELL, HSBC, 24x7 etc. currently hiring a few of our students locally, to include Odisha in their expansion plans.
Empanelment of Training Institutes and Trainers
In order to broad base this initiative, OCAC is looking for experienced and competent training partners having industry experience for expanding this programme to colleges within the State in a phased manner. Advertisements in this regard have been released in the mass media. Efforts are also being made to prepare a uniform training syllabus in consultation with BPO industry leaders like Gecis & Progeon.
OCAC has initiated talks with these companies for recruiting the trainees. They have already specified their requirements to OCAC and have agreed to conduct periodic assessment of the trainees leading to their preparedness and a better chance in final selection.
State of the art training facilities for audio-video recording and replay helps the trainees in developing an accent without Mother Tongue Influence (MTI). Other facilities like cable TV connection for viewing BBC, CNN programs help in improving communication skills. Computer systems on twin sharing basis with Internet connectivity for recording accessing information from the Web. There are two well furnished classrooms, a faculty room and is lobby dedicated to this programme.
